Conservation agriculture is a concept of optimizing use of natural resources in crop production that strives to achieve acceptable profits together with high and sustained production levels while concurrently conserving the environment. It is a concept for new style of farming and is completely based to right mechanization and traditional agricultural practices. The farming practices followed today is increasing soil erosion, depletion of carbon content in the soil, deepening of water tables and increasing pollution of environment. Present farming practices are making farming unsustainable. To counter the ill effect of these practices, conservation agriculture was introduced which is based on three factors- • Minimum soil damage • Diversification of cropping system • Maintaining permanent soil cover with organic mulch. Promoting conservation agriculture one can reduce water scarcity, give scope to relay plantation which will lead to large production and will eventually alleviate malnutrition from the country. The technologies to conservation agriculture provide opportunities to reduce the cost of production, increase yields, increase crop diversification, improve efficient use of resources and benefit the environment. But lack of scientific manpower, burning crop residues, livestock feeding and lack of appropriate seeders are all challenges for CA to overcome. Implementation of conservation agriculture needs proper planning and execution. Conservation agriculture system require shift from conventional agriculture with regard to management of crops, soil, water, nutrients, weeds and farm machinery.
